Crazy Plastic!
At my school they are giving me a add on to my project list. I find this project very interesting, it is all about plastic and how bad it is for our environment. I was hoping to get you involved in it to. My job is to try and inspire people to pick up rubbish. I have some pretty heart breaking facts about the ocean and it’s animals and I will share them all with you. Our ocean is being ruined by plastic!
- Scientist believe that in 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish!
- If everyone picked up a piece of plastic a day that would be 4,000,000 every day not making it to our oceans
- 10 million animals die from plastic each year.
- Great white sharks can jump ten feet into the air to catch prey
- The largest shark is a whale shark which can grow up to 46 feet. The size of a school bus
- The dots and strips on a whale shark are unique like our fingerprints
- Because sharks have no rib cage on land there wight could crash there body
- Great white sharks use body language to talk
- A galapagos shark can push its stomach right out of their mouths
- Did you know that a dolphin can die by being hit by a boat
- Dolphin’s can weigh to about 100-140 Kg and are 1.9-2.5 meters long.
- Dolphins can live to 35 years.
- All dolphins have a bump on there head to help with echo and can live up to 35 years old
- The pink dolphin has a brain 40% larger than humans.
- We can hold our breath longer than Fur Seals.
- Nothing in the ocean tries to eat an orca.
- The outside of a turtle’s shell is made out of the same thing as our finger nail. (Eww)
- Turtles (not all species) can hide their head in their shell when being attacked by a predator
- turtles are one of the oldest reptiles beating snakes, crocodiles and alligators
- Did you know that 1 in 1,000 baby turtles makes it to adulthood!
- the temperature determines if a turtle is a boy or girl.if its cold its a boy if its hot its a girl (not all species)
- turtles are one of the oldest reptiles beating snakes, crocodiles and alligators
- Crabs can’t crawl forward because their legs are on the sides of them.
- Sand is actually parrot fish poop.
- Parrot fish change colour
These facts are heart breaking, gross and mor things I can’t say cause it will be to long.
If you wish to participate in my project all you have to do is
1. Get together and clean up an area in your community
2. Post photos of your group and how much rubbish you collect on https://www.facebook.com/NYLDNZ/
Please participate and help save our ocean! (And to stop plastic from ruining our planet)
